The Magic of Mantras
Because we believe mantras are superpowers, we thought we’d share a little about why we think that’s the case.
Mantras have been around for thousands of years. The word mantra is derived from two Sanskrit words manas (mind) and tra (tool). Originally Hindu and Buddhist practitioners used specific sounds and chants that were designed to aid concentration in meditation, carrying them into deeper states of awareness.
Today, people from all walks of life use mantras to positively impact their wellbeing, with benefits that include:
Clear your mind and tame thoughts
Improve concentration
Calm nervous system
Trigger a relaxation response
Boost self-esteem & confidence
Improved outlook
Cope with stress
Research also suggests that it doesn’t matter what phrase you repeat, the benefits occur when you practice consistently, with the same mantra. Think of using them like waves on a beach, rolling the words gently over your mind, again, and again and again…
Mantras are deeply personal and there really is no right or wrong. Simply find a phrase that chimes with you right now and focus on those words as you repeat them. We particularly like them as a superpower against the inner critic or when the mind has gone into overdrive and won’t settle down.
To help you get started, we’re running a campaign called the Magical Mundane where we’ve coupled some positive mantras with some dreary daily activities, so you haven’t even got to find any more time, just add them to your day! Visit our campaigns page here.
